How Getting Dentures Can Change Your Life for the Better

Dentures have kind of a stigma, but trust us, they’ve improved a lot since your parents’ or grandparents’ time. They work a lot better, fit a lot better, and look more like natural teeth than ever before.

We know it’s a big step. But getting dentures really can improve your life in many ways.

First of all, you will never have to worry about tooth pain again. Ever. Imagine being able to bite and chew without wincing! In fact, you’ll be able to eat and drink normally for the first time in years, because you’ll have a full set of teeth. And you’ll be able to smile without hesitating, which will do wonders for your self-confidence.

Here are a few reasons why you might want to reconsider getting dentures.

What Changes When You Get Dentures?

The most obvious thing you’ll notice is being able to eat again without pain. Once you get used to your dentures, you’ll finally be able to enjoy foods you thought you’d given up forever, like corn on the cob at a summer cookout, a thick cut of juicy steak, or a crisp fall apple.

Many people also see a noticeable improvement in their speech patterns. Missing teeth can cause a whistle or slur that dentures help correct.

Then there’s the growth in your own self-confidence, which might have been suffering more than you realized. We often see that shift happen in real time, when one of our patients mentions how they’ve started smiling again, or another tells us how they feel more comfortable meeting new people, because they aren’t embarrassed by how their teeth look.

Getting used to new dentures takes a little patience. Most people need a few weeks to adjust to the way they feel and to fine-tune how they fit, and we’re here for every one of those small adjustments along the way. It’s a process, but it’s worth it.

Why You Shouldn’t Put Off Getting Dentures If You Need Them

Many people put off getting dentures for years because they fear that wearing them will be uncomfortable or embarrassing. Others who are only missing a few teeth often wait because they aren’t sure whether getting partial dentures will be worth it.

But the longer you wait to replace your missing teeth, the worse your dental problems will get. Every tooth you lose shifts more work onto the ones that remain, and eventually chewing becomes a chore. This also speeds up the rate of damage and decay for your remaining teeth, causing more tooth pain, more infections, and more tooth loss.
