Dental assistants are an important part of maintaining our practice. Although they are not doctors, dental assistants are qualified to perform dental cleanings and to assist our dentists during procedures like root canals and fillings. Dental assistants are also responsible for tasks like setting up exam rooms for appointments and providing a clean environment. We love and appreciate our dental assistants; if you don’t already appreciate the work our dental assistants do, here are a few reasons why you should.
What Dental Assistants Do and Why We Need Them
Easing You In
Typically, a dental assistant is the person who calls your name and directs you from the waiting room to the exam room. They will go over important information with you, such as your medical history and any health changes, such as a pregnancy or diseases like diabetes that can affect your oral health. They will also tell you what’s going to happen during the appointment. For example, if you are there for a routine checkup, they will let you know if your dentist wants x-rays or notify you about any concerns your dentist is checking up on.
Safety and Hygiene
We take safety seriously here at Country Club Dental, which makes our dental assistants especially important. Dental assistants are responsible for ensuring a clean, clinical environment. They are in charge of cleaning the treatment rooms, sanitizing and sterilizing dental equipment, and several other safety tasks.
Assistance During Procedures
When your dentist needs to perform a procedure, there will often be a dental assistant in the room with you. Dental treatments can require many different tools, and sometimes a third, or fourth hand is necessary. Dental assistants help by handing over the necessary tools, applying suction, and helping keep the area free of clutter. Dental assistants may also be responsible for taking dental x-rays and performing an initial examination.
